It is worth considering what accurate signal transfer means. One way of looking at this is to break it into three areas: tonal, dynamic and timing. All three present some serious challenges to a cable designer. A single piano note is a wonderfully complex tonal and dynamic event and any tonal or dynamic information lost or corrupted along the length of a poor quality cable will affect the relation of that note to the notes that precede or follow it (timing).
